What the zone is

The Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, on Hainan’s east coast, is mainland China’s only special medical zone: internationally approved drugs and devices can be used here before nationwide approval, and licensed cell & gene therapies are lawfully delivered in its tertiary hospitals. The zone has licensed technologies across five approval batches, with outcomes reported into a national real-world data program.

The hospitals

The zone’s partners include Ruijin Hospital’s Hainan campus, Ciming Boao International Hospital, West China Lecheng Hospital, Shulan (Boao) Hospital, the Boao Super Hospital and others — staffed and governed as tertiary institutions, not clinics.

The island offers the same shape of week from about $2,700, plus a category the Alps legally cannot: licensed clinical-stage cell and gene programs delivered in hospitals.
